The Nutcracker - Grand Kyiv Ballet

Grand Kyiv Ballet returns to Portalen in 2027 with Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" - a ballet with libretto by Marius Petipa, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's fairy tale from 1892. The company's dancers have represented the Ukrainian ballet school on stages around the world over the past five years.

The story follows Mary, whose godfather Drosselmeyer gives her a nutcracker on Christmas Eve. In her dream, the toy comes to life: the Nutcracker battles the Mouse King's army and transforms into a prince. The second act takes place in a dreamland with dances from Spanish, Chinese, Arabian and Slavic dolls - until Drosselmeyer intervenes and Mary wakes with the Nutcracker in her arms.

Part of the tour proceeds go towards renovating the Ukrainian ballet academy in Kyiv and repairing the ballet youth dormitory.

The performance lasts 2 hours with an intermission and is recommended from age 5. Tickets: adults 405 kr. / children under 16 years 305 kr. (both excl. fee).
