René Dahl Andersen, a former drug squad officer and undercover agent for PET, has written his own story. He spent more than 20 years as a police officer on Vesterbro, working closely with dealers, addicts and criminal informants. In 2006 he was selected for the FBI's undercover training programme and went on to work for several years as an agent in Europe. Skilled, result-driven and willing to take risks, he operated at the outer edge of what the law allowed - and sometimes beyond it. In 2018 he was fired after making a fatal mistake.

In 2021 he published the bestseller 'Hærdet', an account of life as a drug squad officer: dark streets in Copenhagen, bright summer evenings on patrol with colleagues who became friends, the ones who died, and everything that lives on. René is a police officer at heart. In 'Hærdet' he tells most of the story of a reality where morality and everyday pragmatism often blurred together, as hardened officers went out on the street to hold criminals accountable for their actions.

The story is raw, unsettling and true - about good people who make wild choices and sometimes lose sight of who they really are.
