Surgery #1 — KU.BE, Frederiksberg

Zen1 @ KU.BE, Frederiksberg || 05.12.2026 || 20:00 (doors open 19:30)

Surgery #1 is the first concert in a series that explores the concert format from a scientific perspective - featuring works that investigate acoustic phenomena, the body, and surgical precision.

The centrepiece is Ragnhild May's new work 'differences', commissioned by Ear Transplant. The piece uses custom-built sculptural instruments to create difference tones: additional tones that the ear perceives when two or more tones sound simultaneously, even though the instruments do not produce them directly. May describes difference tones as an example of what she calls a "prosthetic entanglement" between body and instrument - a concept she relates to Donna Haraway's cyborg theory and Karen Barad's ideas about entanglement. The programme also includes Cathy Van Eck's 'Music Stands', which explores the sonic possibilities of an object normally perceived as purely practical. In Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir's 'Axis Spirat', four musicians surround a moving light fixture, while long tones are woven together with precision in counterpoint to the light. The evening concludes with a semi-improvised work by Ear Transplant's four core members: Matthew Grouse (electric guitar), Joss Smith (clarinets), Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson (harmonica), and Irene Bianco (percussion).

Tickets: 80 kr. (standard) / 50 kr. (under 26 or student). Remaining tickets sold at the door via MobilePay or cash.
