Handel: Messiah I + II
Sct. Mikkels Kirke, Slagelse · 200 kr. · ≈ 27 €
Sct. Mikkels Church performs parts I and II of Georg Friedrich Handel's "Messiah" under the direction of the church's organist and cantor Martin Legène Jensen. The soloists and orchestra are internationally assembled, and the performance uses period instruments. Sjølund Chamber Choir and an expanded Sct. Mikkels Choir perform as the chorus, while the orchestra is led by concertmaster Alison Luthmers.
Handel composed the work in just 24 days in 1741, and it premiered in Dublin in 1742. The text was compiled by Charles Jennens from excerpts of the King James Bible and the Coverdale Psalter.
