SVEND: Language in Film and TV Series
Svendborg Bibliotek, Svendborg
Linguist Michael Ejstrup sits down with Nanna Ask, a literature communicator and language enthusiast at Svendborg Library, to explore the role of language in film and television series. Why do some voices feel more authentic than others - and what actually happens when an actor speaks with the wrong dialect?
Drawing on Ejstrup's research into Danish spoken language and dialects, the conversation examines how linguistic choices - dialects, intonation, small details in dialogue - create recognition, distance, and identity on screen.
Along the way, he challenges assumptions about how one "should" speak, and offers new perspectives on the language we encounter in media and everyday life.
