Lecture and Shared Meal: Pernille Juhl: A Pinch of Love and the Scent of Vanilla

Author Pernille Juhl discusses two historical women who are central to her novels.

The first is Miss Jensen - the woman behind the cookbook. Kirstine Marie Jensen published her first cookbook in 1901 and was ahead of her time in many ways; today it has sold over 1 million copies. The novel about her, "A Pinch of Love", won a Mofibo Award in 2026 in the Romance category. The second woman is Karen Volf, known as Denmark's first female entrepreneur. In 1890 she opened a shop in Hellerup that sold cakes among other things - the beginning of a cake adventure that spread across the entire country. Karen Volf died at age 82 in 1946; the rights to the cakes have changed hands several times since, and today Bisca on Møn produces them. Her life is portrayed in the novel "The Scent of Vanilla", which comes out in September 2026.

Pernille Juhl made her debut as a 50-year-old with a novel inspired by her grandfather's diaries from World War I and has since published a series of historical novels, including the series "All That Divides Us", for which she received a Mofibo Award three times.

The event takes place in the Hall and can be purchased in two formats. Lecture only (including coffee and cake, starting at 7 p.m.) costs 150 kr. - or 125 kr. for members of Hvidebæk Local Council or the Library Club. If you choose a shared meal with the lecture (starting at 6 p.m., menu composed by Kim Kok), the price is 225 kr., or 200 kr. for members. Registration deadline is October 1, 2026 at 10 a.m.
