Love - Geology and Groundwater

Walther Brüsch is a geologist and senior advisor at the Danish Nature Conservation Association, regarded as one of the country's leading experts on groundwater. He is known from the DR programmes Jorden Kalder, Ubegribeligt and Genstart.

The lecture is titled "Love - Geology and Groundwater" and takes a philosophical approach: Brüsch poses questions about the meaning and origin of life based on our groundwater. Denmark has long been able to boast of drinking water straight from the tap, but decades of pesticide seepage, nitrate from manure, chemicals, TFA, PFAS and other toxins threaten this resource. He explores why clean water is crucial, how we best protect groundwater, and how water connects to the origin of life on Earth.

A special section covers life in "the bank" - the tiny creatures, the so-called stygobiotic fauna, that live in groundwater and in our water pipes and have remained unchanged for hundreds of millions of years.

The lecture has previously been held in several churches and has drawn full houses. The church setting is not due to a religious message, but because the big questions about the origin and meaning of life fit naturally in that context.
