Emil de Waal brings his jazz evening to Elværket Åbyhøj on Wednesday, 2 September 2026 at 19:30, performing alongside Randi Laubek, Jacob Anderskov, Gustaf Ljunggren and Henriette Groth. The programme features modern interpretations of classics by Sidney Bechet, John Mogensen and Fats Waller. This is one of three Danish dates on the tour. Elværket is a cultural and community centre housed in the former power station built in 1913, which supplied electricity to the area until 1965. The building reopened in 2016 following renovation that preserved its original red brick walls and high ceilings. The music draws on jazz tradition with openness and freedom as guiding principles. Tickets are 170 or 190 kroner.

About the venue: Elværket Åbyhøj

Elværket is a community cultural centre in Åbyhøj, housed in the former local power station built in 1913 and extended in 1927, which supplied electricity to the area until 1965. After years of work by local volunteers, it reopened in 2016 with the original red brick walls and high ceilings intact. The main hall holds up to 150 guests and hosts concerts, lectures, exhibitions and communal dinners. The venue is run entirely by volunteers and has a particularly strong music programme.

Jacob Anderskov is a Danish jazz pianist and composer who works at the intersection of jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music. He has released albums on international labels and collaborated with musicians from across the globe. Anderskov trained at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
