Lecture with Niels Krause-Kjær

Niels Krause-Kjær draws on his novel "Ude for uden" (August 2025) to explore Denmark in a time of transition, when rural society vanished within decades, the city became the ideal, and the provinces became losers in a new cultural reality.
The novel is fiction, but based on a real travel journal that Krause-Kjær found in the Danish National Archives - written by his father and his folk high school friends over half a century. That journal became the starting point for a story about dreams, disappointments, and a culture in dissolution.
In the lecture, he alternates between personal memories, historical perspectives, and literary narrative, questioning what we have gained and lost in our encounter with modernity.
