Niels Krause-Kjær (born 1963) is a Danish journalist and novelist, best known for his political thrillers featuring journalist Ulrik Torp - including his debut "Kongekabale" (2000) and "Mørkeland", both adapted for the cinema with Anders W. Berthelsen in the lead role. A former host of DR2 Deadline and Jyllands-Posten journalist, he now writes full-time. His 2025 novel "Ude for uden", a generational saga about the transformation of Danish rural life, won De Gyldne Laurbær and Læsernes Bogpris 2026.
Niels Krause-Kjær received the Readers' Book Prize on April 23, 2026 of 50,000 kr. for the novel "Ude for uden" at the Library Policy Summit in Viborg.
Niels Krause-Kjær has been appointed as chairman of the Danish Arts Foundation for the period 2026-2028.
