Laurits Tuxen's monumental 1883 painting depicts Christian 9. surrounded by his family - royal houses from across Europe, earning him the epithet "Europe's father-in-law". Rector and Ph.D. Marianne Abrahamsen, author of "Christian 9. and His Family: Behind the Fredensborg Painting", delivers a lecture on the stories hidden within the painting's many faces.

The lecture explores dynastic duties and family bonds, but also illegitimate children, depressed queens, and unfaithful husbands. Christian 9. placed his children in European royal houses, and the lecture delves into the Russian, English, Greek, and Danish courts.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Fredensborg-Humlebæk Local History Society.

Fredensborg Bibliotek is on the first floor of Jernbanegade, a short walk from Fredensborg Castle.
