The Darkened Music: Danish Musical Life During the Occupation — Biblioteket i Herning, Herning

Henrik Engelbrecht delivers a lecture on musical life from the 1930s through the end of World War II, drawing on his book "The Darkened Music". He explores how alcohol prohibition, curfews, censorship, and unemployment made life extremely difficult for musicians - and along the way, a singer associated with Herning Opera Festival contributes operatic performances.

Engelbrecht is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and has previously worked at DR P2, the Royal Theatre, and as music director at Tivoli. Since 2014, he has worked as an independent artistic consultant and written books and articles on opera and classical music.

The event takes place in Room ABC and is presented in collaboration with Herning Opera Festival. Admission is 100 kr.
