Herning Læser 2026

Herning Læser 2026 is a reading community running from September 2026 to February 2027 with five evening meetings at the library. Participants work through six shared reading challenges - and can choose to take four additional bonus challenges if they wish to read more.

The six reading challenges:
• A fantasy novel
• A novel by a German author
• A biography or biographical novel
• A local novel - the author visits the meeting (title revealed at the start)
• A poem or poetry collection
• A novel from the decade you were born

Four optional bonus challenges:
• A romance novel
• A book from the "Tænkepauser" series
• A book from a country you'd like to visit
• A book with a boring cover

Programme - all meetings 16:30-18:00, except the finale:

Thursday 10 September: Opening meeting where the challenges are presented and the programme is explained.

Thursday 22 October: Inspiration meeting about the fantasy genre with a talk by fantasy expert Susanne Viinholt-Nielsen followed by group discussion.

Thursday 10 December: Author meeting. Everyone has read the same local novel and discusses it in groups before the author arrives and talks about their writing and the novel's creation.

Thursday 21 January: Inspiration meeting about poetry and the art of reading it, with a talk by Kasper Støvring and group discussion.

Thursday 25 February 16:30-20:30: Finale, where the year's winner of Herning Læser 2026 is announced. The evening concludes with a lecture and light supper.

Snacks are served at all meetings, and there are ongoing small prizes to win. The price is 150 kr. for all five meetings including refreshments and lectures. Meeting room: A+B.
