Are You in Love with Your Mother or Father?

Why do we fall for the people we do? And what role does our relationship with our parents play in the partnerships we form as adults? These are the questions sexologist Emil Østergaard explores in this lecture.

The evening begins with four concepts that often blur together in everyday language: sexuality, sexual activity, intimacy, and eroticism. What are the differences - and what happens in a relationship when love is present but eroticism has disappeared? Or when sex works but intimacy is missing? From there, the lecture moves into feminine and masculine essence: we contain both, and the balance between them affects who we are attracted to and how we show up in relationships.

Finally, the threads come together in the "mother/father imprint" - the pattern we carry from childhood that shows up in our love lives. Are you your mother's boy, your father's girl, your mother's girl, or your father's boy? And what does that mean for the partner you choose and the role you take in a relationship?
