Bird Safari for Ages 6-12 at Naturcenter Amager

Bird Safari for Ages 6-12: 18 October – 22 November 2026, Ildsjælehuset, Kastrup. Admission is free.

A free bird-watching tour for children and adults. The recommended age is 6-12 years, but everyone is welcome.

We meet at Ildsjælehuset and start with a short talk about birds - which ones the children know, what they look like, what they eat. Each child receives an A4 bird checklist of the most common birds so you can tick off the ones you spot along the way.

Then we head out to look in bushes and trees around Naturcenter Amager for small birds, before visiting Store Høj Lake to spot waterfowl and wading birds. At the lake there is a hide where you can get very close - perhaps with the chance to photograph birds through the viewing hole. If the weather is very challenging, we stay mostly inside Ildsjælehuset and draw birds instead. We move within 1,000 metres, and the route works reasonably well with a pushchair.

We finish back at Ildsjælehuset with snacks and a chat about which birds the children remember best.

Practical info:
- Registration via SMS with name and number of people - by Saturday 21 November at 19:00.
- If you have binoculars, bring them. Otherwise you can borrow a pair - mention this when registering.
- Bring a water bottle and snacks for the break.
- Dress according to the weather and bring an umbrella if needed.
- Parents can download the apps 'DOF's Bird Book' and 'Merlin Bird ID' to identify birds by photo and sound - not necessary, but useful.
