Bat Walk at Hvidkilde
Carl Johan Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Lehn, owner and operator of Hvidkilde, welcomes you to the evening. He and his father, Christian Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Lehn, will guide you through the park and share stories about the castle and estate buildings, as well as the park's history.
Flemming Hansen and René Lund Chetronoch from the Danish Nature Conservation Association Svendborg lead the bat portion: they explain the species' hunting methods, appearance, and behaviour, and bring detectors that convert bat ultrasound into sounds humans can hear.
Bats emerge at dusk. In mid-September, the young are ready to fly, and both they and the adults fly around foraging before winter hibernation. With optimal weather, 4-5 different species can be spotted.
The tour is free, but limited to 100 participants, so registration is required via https://forms.gle/bYzjunaGbgmun2L59. Contact person is Flemming Hansen, Danish Nature Conservation Association Svendborg.
