Book Presentation: Lempi - A Stranger Everywhere by Werner Funder

Lempi - A Stranger Everywhere, book presentation: Monday 19 October 2026, 16:00–17:00, Svendborg Bibliotek, Svendborg. Admission is free.

Werner Funder presents his eighth novel, Lempi - A Stranger Everywhere, based on the true story of his own grandmother. At 17, Lempi came to Copenhagen and lived a precarious, undocumented life in Denmark in the early 1900s.

Set in the period 1902-19, the novel explores immigration, shifting identities, and a life constantly on the run. Though historically grounded, it draws clear parallels to today's immigration debate. The foundation is historical and personal fact, but the characters' flesh and blood are fiction.

The event is free - just show up. Location: Havestuen.
