Depeche Mode's Violator · Regnbueskolen, Hammel

Depeche Mode's Violator - lecture: Wednesday 3 February 2027, 19:30–21:30, Regnbueskolen, Hammel. Tickets cost 200 kr.

A lecture exploring the production behind Depeche Mode's landmark album Violator. After the massive world tour supporting Music For The Masses, which culminated in the legendary 101 concert in California, the band faced a crucial question: where to go next? This lecture examines that turning point, focusing on the electronic side of the creative process.

Once the songwriting is complete and songs are written on guitar, they must be transformed into an electronic universe. That universe had changed dramatically with technological advances throughout the 1980s. By the early 1990s, the collaboration between Depeche Mode's Alan Wilder and producer Flood became essential to the band's sound. The lecture takes a close look at Violator's sonic world: which sounds were used, how they were layered together, and how film clips, classical music, and other sources became central to the songs.

No music production background is needed to enjoy the lecture - everything is explained through sound and visuals. The lecture includes examples of the process from song to electronic arrangement to finished track, functioning simultaneously as a mini concert.
