Film screening about banned books

This American documentary follows librarians in the United States as they find themselves at the center of a battle for democracy and freedom of speech - at a time when the right to read freely has become a political flashpoint.

In 2021, the so-called Krause list in Texas - 850 titles about race and LGBTQIA+ - triggered a wave of book bans that has since spread across the country. The film follows the librarians who refuse to back down, continuing their fight for free access to knowledge despite harassment, threats, and legislation targeting their work.

Along the way, the librarians uncover the connections between local boards and the forces driving the censorship movement. The film argues that the battle over books is really about controlling ideas - and thus society as a whole.
