Morning Ceramics Fundamentals Course with Manuel

Ceramics Fundamentals with Manuel: Monday 7 December 2026, 12:00–16:00, Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 3200 kr.

This ten-week ceramics fundamentals course is built around project-based learning. Rather than isolated exercises, you develop and complete whole objects such as bowls, vases, sculptures, and decorative pieces. You'll learn techniques including coiling, slab construction, press-molding, and kurinuki, along with a thorough introduction to clay and its possibilities.

Each class session starts with a concrete project. The instructor presents inspiration materials - objects, images, and visual references - to help you find your own ideas and personal visual language. You'll be guided through the entire process, from sketch and construction to glazing and firing, gaining a deeper understanding of both the craft and artistic expression.

The course suits both beginners and experienced participants, with instruction tailored to each person's level and pace. If you've taken a previous Manuel Canu course, you can build on what you already know. Part of the programme also emphasizes conscious and sustainable practice: the focus is on quality and depth rather than quantity, and you're encouraged to think about material and energy use in your process.

The instructor is Manuel Canu, a trained ceramicist with many years of experience in sculptural ceramics. He has exhibited internationally, studied and worked in England, and now runs a ceramics workshop and gallery in Copenhagen with a group of other artists.

The course is held in the ceramic studios at Vesterbro Library and Cultural Centre, where all participants help maintain the workshop's cleanliness and order. The course fee covers instruction and materials, and participants are expected to help with tidying and share responsibility for the space with other users.
