Science & Cocktails in X31: The Secrets Behind the World of Mushrooms · Den Grå Hal, Copenhagen

Mushroom ecology and cocktails with Lynne Boddy: Tuesday 10 November 2026, 19:00–23:30, Den Grå Hal, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 0–210 kr.

Science and Cocktails presents an evening with Lynne Boddy, professor of fungal ecology at Cardiff University and author of "Fungi: Discover the Science and Secrets Behind the World of Mushrooms". She explores the role of fungi in Earth's ecosystems - from the invisible networks of mycelium to fungal territorial battles, behaviour, and what resembles a form of memory. Before the lecture, Orgelheimers perform surf, jazz and more.

The lecture draws on Lynne Boddy's own research into wood-decay fungi. Most people know fungi as the fruiting bodies that emerge from the ground or grow on trees - but that's only a small part of the picture. The fungus itself is a mycelium: a network of microscopic threads that grows in and on what the fungus feeds on. These networks can stretch for many metres and live for many years. When fungi encounter a foreign species, they battle with enzymes and chemicals for territory - and this shapes the entire fungal community structure within the tree they inhabit.

Tickets: Seated places cost money. Standing room is free and valid until 20:00 - arrive by then and stay all evening. After 20:00, entry is first-come, first-served.
