How does the police solve a murder when the perpetrator has been unknown for decades? And what happens when DNA evidence and genealogical research can suddenly reopen old cases?

Homicide investigator Martin Wittrup Enggaard from Copenhagen Police discusses work on unsolved murder cases and modern investigative techniques. Drawing on real cases, he describes how genetic genealogy has already helped solve over 1,000 murder cases internationally - including the case of The Golden State Killer in the USA. He also addresses the citizen proposal he initiated, which resulted in Danish police now being permitted to use genetic genealogy in investigations of serious crime.

The lecture raises questions about ethics, surveillance, and the limits of technology: how much power should the police have, and what does it mean for future investigations?
