Skumringstimen

This year's Skumringstimen features readings from the Swedish novel "De vil drukne i deres mødres tårer" by Johannes Anyuru (original title: "De kommer att drunkna i sina mödrars tårar", 2017). The Danish translation was published in 2018 by Birgitte Steffen Nielsen.

The novel is a speculative story about democracy, identity, and community. The plot begins with a terrorist attack during a lecture by a controversial cartoonist. A young woman who filmed the event is later admitted to a forensic psychiatric ward, where she tells an author about a fractured future Sweden - and through her account, the novel explores mistrust, exclusion, hope, freedom, and the power of language.
