When Literature Heals the Mind - Lecture with Rachel Röst

Above the library of Pharaoh Ramses II stood the words "The House for Healing of the Soul" - or more colloquially: The Soul's Pharmacy. In this lecture, Rachel Röst explores what this means, drawing on bibliotherapy, international projects that use literature as medicine, and her own experiences - including when a psychiatrist recommended her a book alongside medication.

The lecture is grounded in research but also deeply personal: Rachel Röst holds a degree in literary studies, is an author of novels and children's books, and founded the association Read for Life - which works to ensure that children in care grow up with books. She has lived with generalized anxiety for many years.
