Christmas Through the Ages - Christmas Concert for the Whole Family

Christmas Through the Ages - family concert: 4 December – 6 December 2026, Efterskolen Alterna, Hillerød. Tickets cost 0–40 kr.

Efterskolen Alterna presents the Christmas show "Christmas Through the Ages". It is a musical and dramatic time journey where students guide the audience through different decades' Christmas traditions towards the true message of Christmas.

We follow Maria and a time-travelling elf through four time periods: 1950s rock'n'roll, 1960s Christmas ball, 1970s soul, 1980s big Christmas hits, and today's Christmas rush. Along the way, we see how Christmas has been celebrated in different ways, and the journey finally ends in Bethlehem, where it all began. The show features music, dance, choir, and storytelling, with changing tempo and music throughout. Amid all the shifting traditions, the message remains the same: Christmas is about Jesus.

Christmas atmosphere before and after the show: Before the show begins, the school is decorated for Christmas. There are æbleskiver (Danish pancakes), mulled wine, and roasted almonds, plus cosy areas with candlelight. Father Christmas also stops by.

You can also meet the students, see their creative work, and experience the atmosphere at Alterna. Feel free to bring family and friends.
