Foster Children and Foster Parents - genealogy: Tuesday 3 November 2026, 19:00–21:30, Varde Bibliotek, Varde. Tickets cost 0–50 kr.

With legislation from 1888 and 1895, Danish society established organized oversight of foster children and foster parents. Genealogist Erik Kann examines the key sources in this field - from the limited options before 1888 through the Social Reforms of the 1930s.

Through concrete examples, the lecture shows how to find information about specific foster children.

About the venue: Varde Bibliotek

Varde Bibliotek is the main public library of Varde Municipality, with roots going back to 1897. In 1982 it moved to its current building on Varde Torv, which is connected to the old town hall from 1872. The library offers lending, reading groups, lectures and cultural events, and in 1991 it became the first library in Jutland to open on Sundays. It also runs branches in Ølgod, Oksbøl, Nr. Nebel and Agerbæk, plus a mobile library bus.
