Debut Fest: Who is the Puppeteer?

The work portrays Mother Earth as a motionless puppet made from plant-dyed cotton fabric and constructed from recycled materials. The title "Who is the Puppeteer" points to our reluctance and lack of initiative to act on environmental issues: the puppet, like the earth, is left to the mercy of humanity's desire to pull the strings. Who dares to take responsibility and bring it back to life?

Sif Smith works with an investigative approach to human self-presentation, where perspective - both physical and political - plays a central role. Through her practice, she plays with and challenges our worldview formation before it becomes fixed by our own convictions. She sees a lack of willingness to question one's own worldview as one of the fundamental causes of many of today's global problems.
