"Hellere ruste end at falme" (Better to rust than to fade) explores the emotional landscape of longing so intense it borders on the destructive - yearning for something irretrievably lost and refusing to let it go. The work invites the audience to recognize the emotional life of longing and stubbornness in their own experiences with healing.
The work is created by Ester Ellersgaard, a 26-year-old Danish visual artist based in Antwerp, where she studies Fine Arts. She works with social and psychological themes, drawing inspiration from fear, decay, and emotional vulnerability - focusing on how uncomfortable feelings can be translated into tangible, sculptural forms.
