Elstrup Mølle

Carsten Sahl Andersen, chairman of the Elstrup Mill Friends association, presents the history of the mill and the ongoing work to rescue and restore the building.

The mill on Nordals dates from 1888, when miller Chr. Jacobsen had it built. It is a Dutch gallery mill - and what makes it special is that it is the only one of its kind in Denmark built entirely of wood, and the original milling equipment and machinery are still on site. This provides a rare picture of how milling developed technologically, from the oldest millstones to more modern machines - something many other preserved mills can no longer show, because their equipment has been lost.

In 1997, parts of the load-bearing structure collapsed, and the top had to be removed. Since then, a major grant has been secured for the restoration, and after approval from the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces, the work can now begin.
