Film in Kinorevuen: "The Librarians"
Skørping Bibliotek, Skørping · Free
As part of Dansk PEN's campaign on #ForbiddenBooks in week 41, Skørping Library presents the documentary "The Librarians" in collaboration with Kinorevuen - a film about American librarians who have become leading figures in the fight for freedom of expression and free access to knowledge, amid a wave of book bans and censorship.
The film begins with the so-called Krause list from Texas in 2021: 850 titles about race and LGBTQIA+ whose bans sparked a movement that has since spread across the entire United States. We follow the librarians who refuse to back down - despite harassment, threats, and legislation aimed directly at their work.
Along the way, the film uncovers the connections between local boards and the forces driving the censorship movement, and argues that the battle over books is really about something much larger: control of ideas and thus control of society itself.
The event is supported by Dansk Magisterforbund, and admission is free for everyone.
