Book & Film - "Nøjsomheden"

Stine Askov's 2022 novel "Nøjsomheden" received warm reviews, with one critic writing: "Recommended to everyone with a heart."

The novel is set in a residential area where people struggle to make everyday life work. Here lives Mona, her mentally unstable mother, and the resourceful aunt Tut. Mona has discovered the joy of reading, and at her job in a local bookshop she meets Nikolaj, who comes from a large villa on the beach road. The two fall for each other despite class differences - the book is both a love story and a socially realistic portrait of a vulnerable area in Denmark. The film is directed by Hella Joof.
