Historieklubben på Amager: Latrines, Cabbage, Tenant Farmers and Chemicals

When the Amager Railway opened in 1907, its primary purpose was to serve the factories along Amager's east coast - passenger transport came second. The Amager farmers appreciated the railway, but it was the daily latrine transport from the capital that quickly earned it the nicknames "the shit train" and "the latrine train" among street children and others with an appreciation for earthier matters.

The lecture is based on a large collection of photographs from the Amager Railway's daily operations, as well as accounts and archival research. The speaker is Niels Jensen, who has a background as an intelligence officer in the Danish defence and has worked as a newspaper journalist and author for over 40 years.

The event takes place in the Hall at Sundby Library. Historieklubben På Amager is run jointly by Kvarterhuset, Islands Brygge Library and Sundby Library - everyone is welcome, and the events are publicly accessible.
