Soraya is a 16-year-old Afghan artist who has spent five years trying to escape Iran to reunite with her mother in Austria. The film is a self-portrait in which her escape attempts are interwoven with news footage, personal videos, and traces of violence in her marriage. Director Mehrdad Oskouei worked remotely while Soraya herself filmed the material. Her drawings and sculptures balance beauty and darkness, with symbols such as a fox, a pink moon, and a sad clown carrying fear, hope, and longing for freedom.

A Fox Under a Pink Moon won the IDFA Grand Prize for Best Film in the international competition at IDFA - International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2025.

After the screening, a speaker from Salaam discusses the film with students: why is Soraya trapped without papers in Iran, why does she stay in a violent marriage, and how can one find a safe space in difficult circumstances and express oneself through art. The conversation addresses the conditions of women in Afghanistan and Iran.

The film screening takes place in collaboration with Salaam Film Festival and is held in the Main Hall. One ticket is ordered per school class.
