On Grief, Waiting and What We Cannot Hold

What happens to your view of the world when you know that someone you love is disappearing?

This question forms the foundation of photographer Line Krøll's exhibition at Åby Bibliotek in September and October. Under the title Anatomiae Melancholiae, she presents photographic works and related materials from an extended project about anticipatory grief, loss and memory. The exhibition is located in LitteraturStedet.

Line Krøll is a trained photographer working at the intersection of photography, text, printed media and video. Her practice ranges from portrait and street photography to more atmospheric images, circling themes of human relationships, identity and memory.

The works emerged during a period when anticipatory grief shaped everyday life - a state where fear, love, hope and sorrow over what had already changed coexist. The sharpened gaze that proximity to loss can bring is directly embedded in the images. They span from intimate human subjects to architecture and landscapes, some clear while others are more open or dissolved. Together they speak of presence and absence, what can be seen and what hides between.
