Talk: What Happens When We Die?

Talk with Laura Engstrøm & Thure Lindhardt

At her father's deathbed, journalist and author Laura Engstrøm experienced something she could not immediately explain: a light flickered from his face, and shortly after she saw his deceased brother. The question that arose - what actually happens when we die - is the starting point for a conversation between her and actor Thure Lindhardt at Charlottenlund Slot on October 31st.

Together they explore the scientific and artistic understanding of death, including the experiences many dying people report: visions of the deceased or a sense of moving towards the light. Phenomena that previously were found mainly in myths and literature, but which now also appear in modern research.

Laura Engstrøm (b. 1971) has worked as a journalist for several Danish media outlets and made her debut as an author in 2017 with 'Voices of Silver: my encounter with a magical reality'. Last year her second book was published, 'Taken by the Light', about the special experiences and visions people report at the deathbed. Thure Lindhardt (b. 1974) has appeared in numerous theatre productions, films and TV series and has worked with existential questions about life and death - including by developing proposals for rituals for relatives at Gødstrup Hospital and through readings of 'The Song of Songs' (2020), 'Ecclesiastes' (2018) and the Grundtvig production 'I Once Saw an Image of the Eternal' (2022).
