Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) is a cycle of six cantatas composed for the Christmas season of 1734-35, when Johann Sebastian Bach was cantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Despite its name, it is not a traditional oratorio but six separate cantatas intended for performance across the Christmas days. It remains one of the most performed choral works in the classical repertoire.
