Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen (b. 1980) is a Danish visual artist and musician working at the intersection of fine art and sound. Trained at the Danish Design School and at Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, she builds her own acoustic sound sculptures - instruments she performs with in expanded concert formats. Her work has been shown at the National Gallery of Denmark, Marmorkirken, the Reykjavik Arts Festival and the Street Art Museum in St. Petersburg, among other venues.
Art Matter featured a photo series about Skovmand's double exhibition 'Cosmic Top Secret, Eternity - Fingers Crossed', which showcased installations in steel, aluminum and brass speaker sculptures.
Skovmand participated in Art Hub Copenhagen's first Open Studios event at Thoravej 29 on November 28, 2025 with performative works.
Skovmand was included in the group exhibition 'Skyggearkivet' at Rundetaarn in Copenhagen (September 5 - November 5, 2025).
Skovmand performed at Kunstpakhuset with the sound sculpture Concordia - an acoustic synthesizer made of glass and metals.
Skovmand completed the sound sculpture Ctenophora - an après-Baschet acoustic synthesizer built in the metal workshop in collaboration with consultants Rafael Fernández and Martí Ruiz.
