raster. 30 years anniversary at ALICE
Electronic music group raster. marks three decades with a special anniversary show at ALICE, bringing together Gábor Lázár, Xuri, John Cleworth and Byetone.
Byetone is the alias of German musician and visual artist Olaf Bender, born 1968 in Chemnitz. He co-founded the influential experimental electronic label raster-noton in 1996 together with Frank Bretschneider and Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto), and has run its successor label raster since 2017. His solo work centres on minimal, rhythmic electronic music built from digital glitches and pure tones, documented on albums such as 'Death of a Typographer' and 'Symeta'.
Byetone is announced for RSO Wall2Wall Club Festival 2026 in Berlin.
Byetone contributed music to the label series 'raster. open call - soundtrack europe 2025'.
Byetone performed at MIRA Festival in Barcelona.
Byetone played an audiovisual live set at the concept series 'raster. debut' in Berghain's Kantine and showcased samples of upcoming music.
After a restructuring, Bender took over the management of the label branch raster-media, while Carsten Nicolai continued with Noton.
