About

L'Étranger (The Stranger) is a novel by French author Albert Camus, published in 1942. Its protagonist Meursault, an emotionally detached man living in Algeria, commits a murder and faces trial - judged as much for his indifference at his mother's funeral as for the killing itself. The novel is a cornerstone of existentialist and absurdist literature.
