About

DJ Krush, born Hideaki Ishi in Tokyo in 1962, is a Japanese producer and turntablist widely credited as the pioneer of Japanese turntablism and instrumental hip-hop. He broke through internationally in the mid-1990s via the British Mo'Wax label, with albums like Meiso (1995) blending heavy breakbeats, jazz samples and atmospheric textures. Over his career he has collaborated with DJ Shadow, Mos Def, Guru and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and his sound ranges from trip-hop and ambient to arrangements for traditional Japanese instruments.
