Emil Hess Quartet is a Danish jazz group led by Copenhagen-based saxophonist and composer Emil Hess, who spent years in New York, Boston and San Francisco before settling in Copenhagen in 1999. The quartet - with pianist Thomas Clausen, Canadian bassist Graig Earle and American drummer Richard Huntley - plays modern Nordic jazz with a strong transatlantic influence. Hess has written over 400 compositions, released more than 18 albums and performed at over 1,500 concerts worldwide, winning the Danish Music Award 2014 for best Danish jazz album.
Emil Hess Quartet released the album "Open Minds" on January 31, 2025 on Hess Music - a double album with eight new original compositions and standard interpretations.
The quartet played release concerts for "Open Minds" at Paradise Jazz in Huset Magstræde, Copenhagen, on February 6, 11, 12 and 13, 2025.
