Jens Mikkel Madsen (b. 1988) is an Aarhus-based bassist and composer, best known as the founder and bandleader of the sextet I Think You're Awesome, which he formed in 2009. The band draws on jazz improvisation, Americana, African rhythms and Nordic folk music, and has released eleven albums since its 2014 debut. Madsen has won the Jazznyt Prize and received multiple Danish Music Awards Jazz nominations, while the band's music has been broadcast more than 1,000 times on DR P8 Jazz.
I Think You're Awesome released their eleventh album, Oatmeal Everywhere, on June 13, 2025, recorded live and completely acoustic at the venue Erlings in Aarhus.
The Danish jazz blog Jazznyt.com highlighted Oatmeal Everywhere as a preliminary highlight in Danish jazz in 2025.
The British media outlet UKVibe gave the album Oatmeal Everywhere four out of five stars and praised Madsen's ability to sound 'both intimate and cosmic, structured and free'.
In an interview with AUTOR, Madsen talked about the band's work with a new, completely acoustic repertoire for Vinterjazz - a deliberate change of course away from the electric sound.
I Think You're Awesome released the suite The Good Fight in collaboration with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra in spring 2022.
