Jonas Johansen (b. 1962) is one of Denmark's most in-demand jazz drummers, with over 200 album credits and 17 releases under his own name. He studied with Ed Thigpen and Alex Riel, served as the regular drummer in the DR Big Band from 1990 to 1999, and held the drum chair in the NHØP Trio from 1996 to 2005. His sound draws on jazz, Latin American music, Indian rhythms and more, and he has performed alongside McCoy Tyner, John Scofield and Eliane Elias, among many others. Today he leads the Jonas Johansen Adventure Trio and Jazz Explorer Trio while remaining active with Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra.
