Karl Ove Knausgård is a Norwegian author, born in Oslo in 1968, who achieved international fame with the six-volume autobiographical novel My Struggle (Min kamp, 2009-2011) - a 3,500-page account of his own life that sold over half a million copies in Norway and has been translated into more than 35 languages. His debut novel Out of the World (1998) was the first debut ever to win the Norwegian Critics' Prize. Since 2020 he has been publishing the Morning Star series, a planned seven-volume work that sets the textures of everyday life against the supernatural and metaphysical. His awards include the Brage Prize (2009), the Jerusalem Prize (2017) and the Swedish Academy Nordic Prize (2019).
Knausgård announced in December 2025 that the seventh volume in the Morning Star series will be the last, and that he will begin writing it in January 2026.
The sixth volume in the Morning Star series, I Was Long Dead, was published on October 31, 2025 by Forlaget Oktober and received positive reviews in Norwegian media.
The English translation of Nattskolen (The School of Night), the fourth volume in the Morning Star series, was published by Penguin Press in the USA in January 2026.
In November 2025, Knausgård performed in New York and Minneapolis in an interdisciplinary program, Historia, together with drummer Glenn Kotche and with film by Johan Renck.
