Paul van Dyk, born Matthias Paul on 16 December 1971 in Eisenhüttenstadt, East Germany, is one of the most influential figures in trance music. Growing up in East Berlin, he found his footing in the city's club scene after the fall of the Wall, and went on to build a career spanning more than three decades. His 2000 album "Out There and Back" and the perennial single "For an Angel" are considered genre landmarks, and DJ Magazine voted him the world's number one DJ in both 2005 and 2006.
