Ray Shirley White Sr. is an American soul vocalist and rock and blues guitarist, best known as a member of Frank Zappa's touring ensembles from 1976 to 1984. His voice and rhythm guitar work feature on landmark Zappa albums including Zappa in New York (1978) and You Are What You Is (1981), as well as the concert films The Torture Never Stops and Does Humor Belong in Music?. Since Zappa's death in 1993, White has kept the music alive through projects such as the 2007 Zappa Plays Zappa tour and Banned from Utopia, a band of Zappa alumni.
Banned from Utopia plays in Copenhagen at Bremen Teater on October 15, 2026 - the band's first performance in the Danish capital.
Banned from Utopia's European autumn tour 2025 was postponed in September 2025 and rescheduled to October 2026.
Banned from Utopia played two well-received concerts in Gothenburg and Stockholm in March 2024, which laid the foundation for the upcoming Scandinavia tour.
Ray White wrote liner notes for the anniversary edition of Zappa in New York 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition in 2018.
