Sunset Boulevard
Stephen Sondheim's classic musical about a faded actress and a young screenwriter in 1950s Hollywood.
Sunset Boulevard is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics and book by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, based on Billy Wilder's 1950 film. It follows Norma Desmond, a forgotten silent-film star living in self-imposed isolation in her decaying Hollywood mansion, whose world is upended when a young screenwriter stumbles into her life. The show premiered at London's Adelphi Theatre in 1993 and won seven Tony Awards on Broadway in 1994, including Best Musical. A recent revival directed by Jamie Lloyd, starring Nicole Scherzinger, swept seven Olivier Awards in 2024 and two Tony Awards in 2025.
Det Ny Teater confirmed that Sunset Boulevard will have its Danish premiere on February 11, 2027 and will be performed in Danish with over 40 cast members - the first time the musical is performed in Copenhagen.
