The Mountain Goats
American indie rock band The Mountain Goats perform at Pumpehuset.
The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk band founded by singer-songwriter John Darnielle in Claremont, California in 1991, now based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Starting as a lo-fi solo cassette project, the band grew into a stable trio with Matt Douglas and Jon Wurster. They are celebrated for densely literary songwriting, and the 2005 album "The Sunset Tree" - their best-selling record - brought them to a wider audience. With more than 23 studio albums, they rank among the most prolific acts in American indie music.
The band released their 24th studio album "Days" on August 7, 2026 on their own label Cadmean Dawn.
The Mountain Goats announced a European tour for October 2026, including a concert in Copenhagen at Pumpehuset on October 10.
The band released their 23rd studio album "Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan" on November 7, 2025 on their own label Cadmean Dawn, featuring guest appearances by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tommy Stinson, among others.
A remastered 20th anniversary edition of "The Sunset Tree" was released on October 17, 2025, and Paste Magazine ranked the album at no. 50 on their list of the 250 best albums of the 21st century.
The band completed a fall tour in the USA with 20 shows in 18 cities from September to December 2025.
