About

The Nutcracker is a classical ballet with music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, first performed in Saint Petersburg in 1892. Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's fairy tale, it follows the young girl Marie, who receives a nutcracker on Christmas Eve that turns into a prince in her dream. The second act, a suite of character dances from around the world, has made it one of the most frequently staged ballets in the repertoire.
