Thomas Fonnesbæk was born in 1977 in Helsingør and is now regarded as one of the most sought-after double bassists on the European jazz scene. He picked up the bass at twelve and has since built a wide discography as both bandleader and sideman, working with Enrico Pieranunzi, Sinne Eeg, Justin Kauflin and Monty Alexander, among others. He received the Ben Webster Prize in 2021, and his playing stands in the lineage of Danish bass giants such as Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Bo Stief.
Storyville Records released in June 2026 the trio album 'Between Then and Now' with Christian Sands, Thomas Fonnesbæk and Rasmus Kihlberg under the name North Meets West Trio.
